Technical Associate I, Bhatia Lab

Posting Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, BHATIA LAB, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research, to join a dynamic research laboratory and work at the cutting edge of nanotechnology for the development of diagnostic applications in cancer and therapeutic strategies for applications in malaria. Experimental work will include techniques in mammalian cell culture, biology (RT-qPCR, CRISPR screening, Western blotting, FACS analysis), microscopy, nanotechnology, animal husbandry and tumor models (particularly in lung and/or liver disease), and animal tissue processing. Will also be responsible for assisting with the laboratory operational activities. The main research responsibilities will be synthesis and characterization of tissue-targeting nanomaterials for detecting and treating cancer; executing cell culture and animal experiments under the supervision of a postdoctoral researcher; collecting, recording, and analyzing data and communicating research findings to the research supervisor; participating in laboratory meetings and planning sessions with a diverse group of biologists and engineers and reading literature applicable to the specifics of the research project; and contributing to maintaining the laboratory. Operational responsibilities include safety training of new staff; observation and enforcement of regulatory safety guidelines; ensuring proper disposal of chemical and biological waste; ordering, receiving, and stocking supplies; scheduling the maintenance and repair of equipment; coordination of lab service-focused tasks performed by other lab members; and ensuring that lab is clean and organized.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a field related to chemistry, biology, or bioengineering; a minimum of two years of specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; well-organized, detail-oriented, self-directed, and self-motivated individual; and able to respond to the dynamic needs of the laboratory with a service-oriented, growth mindset. PREFERRED: Laboratory experience in mammalian cell culture, rodent husbandry and diagnostic administration, RT-qPCR, fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, CRISPR screening, and western blotting.
