Posting Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, VANDER HEIDEN LAB, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, to be involved in cutting-edge scientific projects aimed at understanding metabolism in cancer and other systems. The research takes advantage of biochemical and molecular biology techniques and mouse models. The position brings involvement in various aspects of this work, including application of mass spectrometry to assess metabolite levels and metabolic engineering to test how aspects of metabolism are regulated in different systems. Responsibilities include involvement in day-to-day lab operations and various laboratory research experiments, including standard and specialized techniques; mass spectrometry-based metabolite measurements, standard molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning, western blotting, and tissue culture; maintaining laboratory supplies; and participating in laboratory meetings.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and undergraduate training in biology, chemistry, or similar life sciences; two years of experience working in a laboratory environment (undergraduate level experience is acceptable); familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and safety issues and following scientific protocols; practiced documentation skills; understanding of the basics of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by complying with regulations and following standards/procedures; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work and exceeding quality standards; self-motivation; experience working independently and as part of a team; comfort working with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. PREFERRED: Willingness to work with animals.
