Technical Officer - Protein Analytics and Characterisation

- Base salary will be in the range $82,133.75 - $91,295.49 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5)

About This Opportunity
Share your passion for translational science and help drive the next generation of innovative therapeutics. In this role, you will provide technical support to the National Biologics Facility predominantly in the areas of protein analytics and characterisation. Your focus will be on executing analytical assays for the characterisation of biologics and their development as therapeutic agents.
This position will be based at the National Biologics Facility (NBF) within the AIBN. The facility leverages federal funding to operate a clean-room environment and single-use manufacturing train up to 50L scale with associated quality control analytics equipment. The NBF has a strong track record of providing high-quality, custom discovery and manufacturing solutions for the development and production of recombinant biopharmaceuticals in mammalian cells. The facility works with academic and industrial researchers to help drive their research from early discovery through to pre-clinical development.
Key responsibilities in this role will include:
Core Scientific:
- Execute analytical assays for the characterisation of quality attributes of recombinant protein biologics
- Assist with the qualification of analytical assays for batch release and stability testing
- Assist with protein formulation studies
- Peer review of Test Methods and Batch Reports for internal quality assurance
- Assist with the wider NBF bioprocess activities (as required), including molecular biology, upstream and downstream bioprocessing
General
- Communicate results in detailed batch reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders
- Assist with project management to track projects through milestones
- Assist with maintaining the Facility’s Quality Systems, including Quality Assurance activities
- Generate, review and follow Standard Operating Procedures with a high attention to detail
- Assist in the maintenance and daily operation of the laboratory, clean room facilities and equipment
- Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor

- Ensure a high standard of occupational health and safety standards and systems and assist with developing a proactive safety culture and implement continuous improvement

About You
- Qualifications and training equivalent to a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in a relevant area (Bioengineering, Bioprocessing, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy)
- Experience in the execution of analytical assays related to the characterisation of recombinant proteins, particularly in the field of biopharmaceutical development
- Experience in following Standard Operating Procedures, record keeping and preparation of reports
- Responsible approach to equipment use and maintenance
- Computer literacy including experience with standard office software and electronic databases
- Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation
Desirable
- Knowledge of the biologics manufacturing industry in GMP environments
- Experience working within a Quality Management System, including knowledge of ISO, NATA, GLP or GMP requirements
- Experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures and Qualification Protocols
- Experience in experimental design and interpretation of results
