The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) is a world-leader in research that positively impacts alcohol and other drug use and related harms. The Centre, based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Faculty of Medicine and Health, was established in 1986 in response to an emerging crisis of heroin use. For over 35 years NDARC has been Australia’s leading research centre in the sector.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Officer (casual appointment) to join our team. The successful applicant will work across a range of projects related to alcohol and illicit drug epidemiology. They will have the opportunity to use and develop diverse research skills, including contributing to design of new projects, analysis of quantitative data, writing up papers and reports, and engaging with stakeholders.

Position Summary

A Research Officer (Level 7) provides extensive research support and advice to research staff that contributes to the strategy of the business area.

This role will:

  • Provide expert and technical research support to stakeholders.
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative data analysis and evaluation.
  • Perform complex data collection, analysis.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to write and review research reports.
  • Undertake complex research tasks consistent with established methodologies (may include lab or field work).
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Completion of a tertiary degree with a depth of extensive relevant experience in research project coordination.
  • Advanced knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and project planning and reporting against milestones.
  • Experience in the management of large datasets/databases.
  • Advanced level and skills in Microsoft Office applications and other applications/databases.
