Technician C Electro - Mechanical

Posting Description

TECHNICIAN C ELECTRO-MECHANICAL, Haystack Observatory, will perform jobs of skilled or semi-skilled nature which support integrating and repairing electro-mechanical systems and equipment; be trained to assist in the operations, assembly, repair, and maintenance of antenna mechanical systems, radio and radar receivers, control systems, computers, data networks, and high-power microwave transmitters; conduct maintenance and installation activities involving the antenna systems, which involve mechanical work at height and tower climbing. Training in industrial tower climbing and electrical, RF, and high voltage safety will be provided.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Familiarity with machine shop equipment, tools, and methods (e.g., drill press, sanders, machine tools, etc) in the context of mechanical systems, small scale assembly, and basic fabrication; general mechanical systems knowledge and electro-mechanical assembly skills using hand and power tools; willingness to develop skill using modern tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting systems; willingness to learn and use computer systems in a variety of configurations (Windows, Linux, embedded computers); and ability to lift 50 lbs. as part of mechanical maintenance activities and a willingness and ability to climb towers.

The applicant must pass a tower climbing physical and be willing and able to climb towers.

The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Must be willing to support instrument operations on overtime shifts and occasional travel to field sites. May also be required to cover a different shift if sustained operations coverage is needed. There may also be occasions when maintenance and operational responsibilities require working off-hours or holidays.
