Temporary Laboratory and Research Technician - S. Cosseboom Team (Highland, New York)

Temporary Laboratory and Research Technician

Hudson Valley Research Laboratory

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS)

Highland, New York

About the College

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second-largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy, and environmental resources; and social, physical, and economic well-being.

The Hudson Valley Research Laboratory is a critical resource for farmers in the Hudson Valley and Eastern New York State. This area is a significant agricultural region where tree fruit likes apples and pears; stone fruit like plums and cherries; berries and small fruit like blueberries and strawberries; and vegetable crops - particularly onions, tomatoes, and sweet corn-making up the majority of production. We provide growers with a non-biased approach to research and problem solving.

As a member of the team, you will assist with experiments involving greenhouse and in-field plants. You will provide routine to moderately complex technical lab support for a research program/facility. Other duties include:

  • Preparing and maintaining standard tissue and cell culture for experimentation.
  • Analyzing data using straightforward statistical methods and computer software.
  • Visiting field sites for sample and data collection and the conducting of experiments off site.
  • Providing routine maintenance of experimental plots and plants.
  • Documenting laboratory procedures.
  • Completing training on field safety and use of field equipment.

We are looking for a talented individual with an excellent work ethnic, who appreciates the agriculture and working in a research lab as well as outdoors. Specifically, we need someone who has the following:

  • High School Diploma and 2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
