Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in English Literary Studies (Literatures in English and Emerging Technologies) in the School of English (Ref. 534316), to commence on September 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Faculty of Arts is ranked number one for Arts and Humanities in Asia (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025). The School of English, housed under the Faculty of Arts, offers degree programmes at undergraduate, research postgraduate and taught postgraduate levels. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline, a proven track record, and be prepared to teach and supervise at the B.A., M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. levels. The position is open to scholars working at the intersection of literatures in English and one or more modalities of emerging technology, including Large Language Models (LLM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), Gaming and Narrative, as well as technologies related to digital archiving, material manuscript studies, and the digitising of literatures as cultural heritage.

The appointee is expected to help the School of English advance innovative teaching and impactful scholarship in literatures in English from any period with a strong element of modern technology. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in the interaction of literatures in English and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the cutting edge of interdisciplinary digital humanities.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and professional leave, medical benefits, and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
