The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) of the University of Lausanne is inviting applications for position of:

Tenure-track Assistant Professor towards Associate Professor in the field of environmental stress and age-related diseases within the Department of biomedical sciences.

Starting date: August 1st, 2026, or to be agreed. Place: Lausanne, Switzerland. Duration: 2 years, renewable twice. Activity rate: 100%.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (DBS) is the main center for research activities in metabolic, cardiovascular and renal diseases, as well as regenerative medicine and aging in Lausanne. We occupy a privileged site on the University Hospital campus (CHUV), allowing for close interactions with the Clinical Services. The department hosts more than 150 scientists who use a variety of research models to study the biological mechanisms governing human physiology and disease. In addition to its research mission, the DBS plays a central role in teaching physiology, pharmacology, histology, toxicology and cell biology to biology and medical students. Researchers have access to state-of-the-art core facilities, including a stem cell and organoid facility and electron microscopy facilities (such as the Dubochet Center).

Main missions: Research

  • Conduct independent and innovative fundamental or translational research in the biomedical field, financed by external funds and published under the DORA principles.
  • Lead a research group, coordinate its research with that developed by other groups of the Department, in compliance with legal and ethical regulations and in a spirit of collaboration.
  • Collaborate in the scientific and academic life of the Department and the Faculty, while ensuring outreach at regional, national and international levels.

Main missions: Teaching

  • Participate in the teaching activities of the DBS within the Schools of Biology and Medicine (structured teaching, supervision of master's / thesis work, optional courses, practical work, management).
  • Contribute to the supervision of thesis and to MD, PhD and MD-PhD thesis committees / juries, as well as doctoral programs.
  • Organize and participate in internal and external seminars, etc.

Desired profile

  • PhD or MD-PhD, with expertise in basic or translational research on stress and age-related diseases; topics of interest include chemical stress responses, metabolic alterations or regenerative processes.
  • Preference will be given to applications that develop and use alternative animal models or innovative assays.
  • Strong track record in research, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and the ability to secure competitive funding.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses aligning with the faculty’s requirements.
  • Advanced managerial skills (management of various teams and projects).
  • Preference will be given to a personality open to communication and cooperation.
  • Proficiency in French (level at least B2, C1 ideally) or ability to acquire it quickly.
