Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Global Change Biology

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) and the Institute for Global Change Biology (IGCB) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position in any area of global change biology to begin August 25, 2026. This is a university year appointment and will be at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek a colleague whose research addresses the ecological or evolutionary dimensions of global change that advances understanding of how organisms, populations, communities, or ecosystems respond to or impact anthropogenic change across spatial and temporal scales. A successful candidate will be expected to establish a thriving research program and effectively teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students. They might also leverage University of Michigan and EEB facilities, including world class biodiversity collections (Museum of Zoology and Herbarium), a local field research facility (the Edwin S. George Reserve), and a large educational and research facility in northern Michigan (the University of Michigan Biological Station). The university is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which is a vibrant community with excellent schools and proximity to both natural areas and Detroit.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a concise (2-4 page) research statement, a statement describing their approach to effective teaching and mentoring, teaching evaluations and other evidence of teaching excellence, and contact information for three references. Applications must be submitted electronically through this Interfolio link. Questions about this search should be directed to Natalia Umaña (maumana@umich.edu).

Employment will require a successful criminal background check and candidates must meet all degree requirements prior to the start date of the position. The University of Michigan is supportive of the needs of dual career couples and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
