IE University’s School of Science and Technology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Applied Mathematics and Computational Modeling.
We seek outstanding candidates whose research is centered on the mathematical modeling, analysis, numerical solution and simulation of physical, engineering, or complex systems.
The position is particularly suited to researchers with a strong background in applied and computational mathematics who develop mathematical models and numerical methodologies for scientifically relevant problems.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in areas such as Numerical Methods, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Optimization, Scientific Computing, Complex Systems, and Network Science.
Spanish language skills are not required. Our working language is English. Both our faculty and student body are highly diverse and international.
Research Profile
We are particularly interested in candidates working in one or more of the following areas:
Partial and ordinary differential equations: analytical and computational methods for differential equations and mathematical modeling.
Numerical analysis and scientific computing: numerical methods, computational linear algebra, high-performance scientific computing, tensor methods, and scalable algorithms.
Optimization: continuous and discrete optimization, computational optimization, inverse problems, and optimization methods for scientific and engineering applications.
Dynamical and complex systems: nonlinear dynamics, mathematical physics, network science, multiscale systems, and modeling of complex phenomena.
Computational modeling and simulation: reduced-order modeling, simulation, data assimilation, digital twins, and computational methods for physical and engineering systems.
Applications may include engineering, physics, energy systems, climate and environmental science, life sciences, neuroscience, sustainability, or other domains where mathematical and computational modeling plays a central role.
A doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Computational Science, Physics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Prior teaching experience and evidence of academic or professional contributions in the field will be viewed favorably.
Faculty are expected to engage in high-quality research, pursue competitive external funding, supervise students, and contribute to curriculum development and university service.

Research Environment: IE Research Datalab
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to become an active member of the IE Research Datalab, an interdisciplinary research environment within the IE School of Science and Technology bringing together researchers across applied mathematics, statistics, optimization, data science, machine learning, and computational science.
The Datalab combines fundamental methodological research with interdisciplinary and applied research, fostering collaboration across mathematics, computation, and scientific applications. Its research activities span areas including Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistical Modelling, Data Science and Machine Learning, and Computational Biology.
For this position, particularly relevant areas of interaction include dynamical systems, mathematical and computational optimization, mathematical physics, scientific modeling, and complex systems. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop collaborations within the Datalab while establishing an independent and internationally visible research program in applied and computational mathematics.

IEX Labs Collaboration
We also value candidates with the capacity to collaborate in applied research projects led by IEX Labs at IE School of Science and Technology, particularly in areas involving Advanced Simulation for Energy and Sustainability, Digital Twins, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, and computational modeling for scientific and industrial applications.
The ability to translate mathematical models and computational methods into solutions for scientifically and technologically relevant problems will be particularly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Applied Mathematics, Numerical Methods, Differential Equations, Scientific Computing, Optimization, Dynamical Systems, Network Science, and Complex Systems.
- Conduct internationally recognized research in applied mathematics, numerical analysis, scientific computing, optimization, or computational modeling.
- Pursue competitive external research funding.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students.
- Develop interdisciplinary collaborations involving mathematical modeling and computational science.
- Collaborate with industry and external research partners on scientifically and technologically relevant problems.
- Contribute to curriculum development in applied and computational mathematics.
- Participate in academic service and contribute to the strategic growth of the Department of Mathematics and the School of Science and Technology.

Qualifications
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Science, Physics, Engineering or relevant field by the appointment date, or a closely related area.
- Postdoctoral research experience is desirable but not required.
- Evidence of excellent research potential or achievement, including recent high-quality publications.
- Potential to attract competitive external funding.
- Commitment to excellent teaching, student supervision, and inclusive mentorship.
- Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary science and technology programs.
