Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Medical Oncology

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position in Medical Oncology in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences (https://wcvm.usask.ca/departments/small-animal.php), Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate include high quality instruction in oncology to undergraduate and graduate veterinary students; participation in the clinical teaching and service programs of the Small Animal Clinic (https://vmc.usask.ca/services/small.php) of the Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC); and development of an independent or collaborative research program with other members of the oncology team. Contributions to the continuing education of practicing veterinarians are expected. This position will have a 75% commitment to clinical service and 25% to formal teaching.

The WCVM (https://wcvm.usask.ca/) is Western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the main campus of the University of Saskatchewan, with access to other facilities that include the Biomedical Imaging and Therapy Facility at the Canadian Light Source (https://www.lightsource.ca/index.php) and the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation (https://fedorukcentre.ca/). Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within the WCVM and the University of Saskatchewan’s Colleges of Medicine; Pharmacy and Nutrition; Dentistry; and Kinesiology; as well as the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.

The VMC is a state-of-the-art, AVMA and AAHA accredited, primary care hospital and referral centre serving Western Canada. Specialty services, as well as undergraduate and graduate veterinary student training, are offered in anesthesia; dentistry; dermatology; exotic, wild, and zoo animals; internal medicine; medical imaging; nutrition; oncology; ophthalmology; radiation oncology; and surgery. Advanced imaging modalities, including CT, PET-CT, 3T MRI, linear accelerator, fluoroscopy, and nuclear scintigraphy, are available on site. The radiation oncology unit has a TrueBeam linear accelerator, and ARIA and Eclipse treatment planning software. Staff include a board-certified medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, dedicated oncology technologists, and a radiation therapist / dosimetrist.

Applicants must possess a DVM degree or its equivalent and must be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan (https://svma.sk.ca/). The successful candidate must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) or have credentials acceptable to the ACVIM (Oncology) at the time the appointment becomes effective. Possession of an advanced degree is desirable.

Salary bands for this position for the 2025-2026 academic year are: Assistant Professor - $110,489 to $131,909; Associate Professor - $131,909 to $153,329; and Professor - $153,329 to $187,319; and is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
