Basic Functions

FAIR LABOR STANDARS ACT (FLSA) POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT

VOLUNTARY REASSIGNMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THE FIRST 7 WORKING DAYS (FULL TIME FACULTY ONLY), JANUARY 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM

10-Month Tenure Track Position

COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS- Comprehensive benefit package which includes:

  • District paid medical, dental and vision insurance for the employee and dependents.
  • District paid $50,000 life insurance policy for the employee.
  • Participation in CalSTRS Teachers Retirement System.
Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be present on campus to teach face-to-face classes and hold in-person office hours.
  • Teach a variety of courses in U.S. and World History. Additional instruction could include but not be limited to courses in African American History, Women's History, Latin American History, Native American History, and California History.
  • Implement current theories and methods of teaching including Distance Education Instruction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in program review and curriculum development and participate in other departmental functions.
  • Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, both on campus and in other modalities, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities.
  • Serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program.
  • Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Provide critical and timely feedback on all assignments.
  • Comply with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.
  • Participate in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes.
Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's in history ORBachelor's in history ANDMaster's in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science or ethnic studies ORthe equivalent.
Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
We will be using the guidelines set out by the Academic Affairs Division of the Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges. Some specialized courses may require specific certificates (must meet minimum content requirements specified by outside/other agencies based on accreditation).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of developing course syllabi
  • Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning
  • Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies
  • Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable.

Ability to:

  • Ability to work effectively in person through clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability in diverse professional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain current in ones discipline through ongoing professional development, research, and engagement with emerging trends and best practices.
  • Ability to use advanced technology in the classroom
  • Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms
  • Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
