The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, one of the three academic units of the Faculty of Education at McGill University, invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Applied Exercise Physiology, effective August 1, 2026 or as mutually agreed upon between the University and the successful candidate. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual who can work in an interdisciplinary environment, and complement and expand existing research activities in the DKPE, Faculty of Education, and across the University. The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree (postdoctoral training is an asset) in the area of Kinesiology or a related field (e.g., Exercise Science, Human Physiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology) at the time of application. Applicants must: (1) (for the rank of Assistant Professor) demonstrate a strong potential to engage in scholarly activity and build an impactful research program, or (for the rank of Associate Professor) have a growing body of productive scholarly activity, that includes a record of research dissemination, in terms of peer-reviewed articles and presentations at national and international scholarly conferences; and (2) have demonstrated ability to apply for (for the rank of Assistant Professor) or evidence of securing (for the rank of Associate Professor) competitive research funding (e.g., tri-council and partnership grants) in applied exercise physiology. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

McGill University is a world-renowned English-language institution located in the heart of cosmopolitan Montreal and is ranked among the world’s top universities. The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education offers a B.Ed. in Physical and Health Education (since 1912), a B.Sc. in Kinesiology, as well as graduate-level M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in six areas of specialization.

The candidate is expected to establish a program of original, externally funded research (e.g., tri-council and partnership grants) and effectively supervise master’s and doctoral students in Kinesiology Sciences, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in applied exercise physiology and related areas, and actively engage in service that will contribute to the advancement of the DKPE, McGill University, and the broader scholarly community. The candidate will also make a significant contribution to the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute (SASSI) at McGill University, which has a broad mandate to generate and disseminate research that will advance sports science, particularly as it relates to optimizing elite sport performance.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching focus on an area which complements the existing areas of expertise within the DKPE. Broad areas of desirable expertise include, but are not limited to: neuromuscular or muscle physiology, healthy aging, or environmental exercise physiology, with attention to sex- and/or gender-based considerations.

Please address your application to: Dr. Gordon Bloom, Chair, Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, McGill University.
