Position Description
The Department of English seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in global literatures and media in English from 1945 to the present. We welcome applications from innovative scholars working across any geographical region, methodological framework, or cultural context within the post-WWII era. Our primary goal is to identify an exceptional researcher and teacher whose work pushes the intellectual boundaries of global literary and media studies and traces how English moves across national borders. Open to scholars working on diverse literary genres and media landscapes including but not limited to book history, print culture, and transmedia storytelling (i.e. cinema and television, video games, long-form narrative podcasts, radio, and new forms of visual and auditory storytelling).
The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2027. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, contributing to the intellectual life of the Faculty and University by pursuing a full program of scholarly research and course development, advising undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing independent research projects, and engaging in an appropriate amount of service.
In Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, tenure-track positions are untenured.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate or terminal degree in English or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.
Additional Qualifications
Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and advising is desired.
