Yale Divinity School invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in Philosophical Theology and/or Philosophy of Religion to begin July 1, 2026. The rank of the appointment is open. Yale Divinity School provides an ecumenical environment in which students are prepared for ordained and lay ministry in diverse Christian churches and for a wide range of professional careers, including additional advanced degrees in academic and professional schools, not-for-profit work, and public service.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold (or be on the verge of completing) a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Philosophy, Theology, or a directly related field and they must have an active research program in philosophical theology or philosophy of religion (broadly understood). The subfield of specialization is open, and we welcome applications from candidates representing a diverse range of scholarly approaches and foci. Successful candidates will have strong potential and/or demonstrated competence as an instructor. Candidates should be happy to teach and advise students across multiple degree programs at Yale Divinity School, including students pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion with a concentration in Philosophical Theology/Philosophy of Religion (many of whom are preparing for doctoral work) and students pursuing a Master of Divinity (many of whom are preparing for a ministerial vocation). Supervision of doctoral students may also be possible in collaboration with PhD-granting departments at Yale.

Nontenured applicants should solicit three letters of reference; tenured applicants should supply the names of three possible references to be consulted if they advance to the finalist stage.
