Job Summary
The Engineering Education Program within the College of Engineering
and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder invites
applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in
Engineering Education. This is an open-rank search, and candidates
will be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor,
Associate Professor, or Professor rank, commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
We seek a scholar whose research focuses on Engineering Education,
Computer Science Education, or a closely related area. The
successful candidate will contribute to the Engineering Education
PhD program through doctoral student teaching, mentoring, research
advising, and program development. The faculty member will be
rostered in one of the departments in the College of Engineering
and Applied Science, where their tenure home will be located. The
faculty member is expected to contribute to the teaching, research,
leadership, and service missions of both the Engineering Education
Program and their tenure-home department.
We are especially interested in candidates who will advance
engineering education research, support the preparation of future
engineering educators, contribute to inclusive and evidence-based
approaches to engineering teaching and learning, and help
strengthen the College’s interdisciplinary capacity in Engineering
Education.

The Engineering Education Program is an interdisciplinary program
in the College of Engineering and Applied Science that offers a PhD
degree in Engineering Education. The program brings together
faculty from across the university to create a community of
scholars and educators focused on student learning, engineering
formation, inclusive and evidence-based teaching, program
assessment, and the broader systems that shape engineering
education. The PhD program prepares graduates to conduct research
on significant problems in engineering education, apply
research-based instructional strategies in engineering settings,
and understand policy and systemic implications for student

The Engineering Education Program is not a tenure-granting unit.
Therefore, the successful candidate will have a tenure home in one
of the departments in the College of Engineering and Applied
Science, which may include Aerospace Engineering Sciences; Chemical
and Biological Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Architectural
Engineering; Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering; or
Mechanical Engineering. The specific tenure-home department will be
determined based on the candidate’s background, research area,
teaching interests, and alignment with departmental needs.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded
research program in Engineering Education, Computer Science
Education, or a closely related field.
Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including
advising Engineering Education PhD students and serving on doctoral
committees.
Contribute to graduate curriculum development,
program-building, and interdisciplinary collaboration in
Engineering Education.
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the faculty
member’s tenure-home department, the Engineering Education Program,
and/or interdisciplinary programs in CEAS, depending on expertise
and program needs.
Contribute professional leadership and service to the
Engineering Education Program, the tenure-home department, the
college, the university, and relevant professional
communities.
Cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our
academic community.
The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching,
40% scholarly and creative work, and 20% leadership and
service.
What You Should Know
- The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2027;
however, a later start date may be negotiated.
- The successful candidate will be rostered in a CEAS department,
which will serve as the candidate’s tenure home. The candidate will
also be expected to contribute substantively to the Engineering
Education Program.
- Candidates considered for appointment with tenure must meet
University standards and the criteria for tenure and promotion in
the proposed tenure-home department.
- We welcome applications from candidates whose scholarship uses
a wide range of research traditions and methodologies, including
qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, design-based, critical,
theoretical, computational, and interdisciplinary approaches.

- The salary and rank will be determined based on applicable
experience and tenure home.
- The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at
the Assistant Professor rank is $110,000 - $145,000.
- The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at
the Associate Professor rank is $122,000 - $170,000.
- The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at
the Professor rank is $155,000 - $210,000.
- A relocation stipend may be available within CEAS
guidelines.

Education, Computer Science Education, Engineering, Computer
Science, STEM Education, Education, Learning Sciences, Information
Science, or a closely related field, or have their degree conferred
before starting a tenure-track faculty appointment.
