The Naval Postgraduate School Foundation is seeking applicants for the Donald R. Beall Defense Fellowship Program located in Monterey, California, for academic year 2026-2027. A defense-oriented research university, the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) provides a broad range of high-quality graduate education and advanced research programs in support of national and international security. The Beall Fellowship was designed to further the NPS mission by preparing the next generation of security scholars for service in the U.S. Government, academia, industry or on national defense advisory bodies. In this time of unprecedented change, NPS is focused on developing military capabilities and innovative technologies along with building and preparing the force with an increased focus on acquisition and the supply chain by honing the professional education of the next generation of defense acquisition.

Fellows will be exposed to leading faculty and researchers, serving military officers, and interagency officials, facilitating greater understanding of U.S. national security policy and the DoD, in general. Fellows will be expected to deliver guest lectures on their areas of expertise, serve as readers on graduate theses or capstone projects, and conduct significant research leading to the publication of professional papers, monographs, and/or other major works.

The Donald R. Beall Defense Fellowship Program is a one-year appointment, with options for renewal in certain circumstances. To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate a strong record of scholarship at a Masters degree or an earned or in-process doctorate.
