The Estonia-Oxford Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowship in Baltic Studies 2026-2027 at the European Studies Centre
Applications are invited for the Estonia-Oxford Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowship in Baltic Studies for the academic year 2026-2027. The Fellowship is intended to support scholarship related to the Baltics in the European Studies Centre’s areas of interest, which include: Contemporary European History, European Comparative Politics, International Relations, Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Policy and Cultural Studies. A particular interest in Europe is essential.
Applicants should hold a doctorate at the time of application, and a good working knowledge of English is essential.
The fellowship is awarded for two terms from 1 October 2026 until 31 March 2027 although the college will accept applications for the period 1 January until 30 June 2027 as well. It carries a research grant of £20,000 plus other College benefits. Taxation in the UK and elsewhere depends on the individual circumstances of the candidate and independent personal advice should be taken as necessary.
The successful candidate will become a member of the academic community of the European Studies Centre, and a Visiting Fellow of St Antony’s College. They will be expected to reside in Oxford during tenure, to pursue his or her own research, and to participate fully in the academic life of the European Studies Centre at Oxford, for example:
- To conduct research and publish original work;
- To deliver a public seminar;
- To contribute with their knowledge to appropriate seminars and discussion groups at the European Studies Centre;
- The European Studies Centre, with the advice of the Fellow, can organize an annual conference, through the fellow’s networks and contacts with academics who could be invited to present their work at the Centre, bringing together scholars and interested parties in the fellow’s research area.
Grant:
There is a research grant of £20,000. Additional benefits include:
- Office space at the European Studies Centre;
- Use of College library and social facilities and College email account;
- Four High Table dinners in College, per term;
- Administrative support;
- Some funds for activities related to the research interests of the fellow.

- A clear research proposal which should specify the research question, approach, methodology, and intended outcome of the proposed research (3-5 pages)

- Two names of referees with contact details
- Eligible applicants must have received their doctoral degrees within the past 5 years, and doctoral students must provide evidence of a completed PhD by August 2025.
