Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The American River College Theatre & Film Department is seeking an experienced and passionate, full-time, tenure-track acting/directing faculty member to join its team to continue development of our strong acting and production program. The faculty member will teach classes which come from the following areas: acting, movement & voice, literature, history, diversity, and possibly film. They will direct one of our four productions each year, from a season that includes one musical, two mainstage shows, one black box show, and one showcase and/or children’s touring show. Related production involvement expected includes activities such as dance or fight choreography, vocal direction, publicity, and stage or house management.

The position requires participation in a variety of campus and division activities including department meetings, committee meetings, student activities and clubs, curriculum development, and office hours. Faculty are expected to foster collaborations with universities and develop outreach to our high school partners, and support our professional partnerships. Faculty provide support for our students’ involvement in the American College Theatre Festival, and for our internship programs in the community. A growing Film Studies program collaboration is also an important part of our department experience.

Role Duties:

  • Direct dramatic or musical theatre productions.
  • Create a supportive and collaborative environment for students.
  • Coach/Direct actors in the classroom and in live performance.
  • Collaborate with theatre designers and technical staff.
  • Provide leadership in recruitment and outreach to local high schools.
  • Expand employment pathways and create collaborative experiences for students.
  • Teach college-level courses.

Position Salary Information:

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance
    OR
    Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance
    AND
    Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities
    OR the equivalent*.
  2. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20, 2026.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
