Offer Description
CLUNL - Research Center for Linguistics at NOVA University Lisbon is seeking to recruit three PhD Students within the scope of the Project CORRELATE - Corpora and Lexical and Terminological Resources, funded by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT), ref. I&D UID/03213/2025 – Centro de Linguística da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (CLUNL) (https://doi.org/10.54499/UID/03213/2025), in accordance with the following terms:
Work plan:The hired researchers will be integrated into the project team, participating in the following scientific research and knowledge dissemination tasks:
- Compilation and processing of texts for the creation of corpora and subsequent availability.
- Exploration of linguistic data.
- Communication of research findings and writing of scientific articles.
The work will be carried out under the scientific supervision of the project's PIs Professors Rute Costa and Raquel Amaro.
Duration of the grants: The grants will last for 3 months, and are expected to start in October 2026. The grants may be renewed up to a maximum of 12 months.

2.1. In the case of academic degrees obtained at foreign higher education institutions, it is necessary to present the recognition of the degrees obtained, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August; or, in the absence of recognition at the time of application, a declaration on honour that this recognition will be made before the scholarship is contracted in the event of the candidate being selected. However, it is compulsory to present the acknowledgement before the scholarship is contracted.

Each candidate may submit only one application.
If candidates make false declarations or commit acts of plagiarism, their application will be cancelled, without prejudice to the adoption of other sanctioning measures.

Specific Requirements
Admission requirements: In compliance with article 8 of the NOVA University Lisbon Research Scholarship Regulations, it’s mandatory to:
a) Hold a Master’s degree in Language Sciences/Linguistics/Terminology
b) Be enrolled in a PhD program in one of the scientific areas of the call.
Preference will be given to applications that fulfil the following requirements:
a a) Research experience in Terminology and/or Lexicography.
b) Proficiency in corpus compilation and analysis tools (e.g., BootCat, SketchEngine) and/or knowledge organization.
c) Ability to work in interdisciplinary domains and teams.
Required Languages: Portuguese. Proficiency in other languages is valued.
Additional Information
Benefits
The scholarship amount is 1.359,64€ per month according to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country. To this value is added the voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate opts for its attribution, as well as the personal accident insurance.
Selection process
The evaluation will take into account the merit of the candidates and work plan. Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale of 0 to 20 for each of the following assessment criteria:
Criterion A – Merit of the Applicant, with a weight of 60%:
Sub-criterion A1 – Contribution to the production of knowledge (books, book chapters, theses, articles in indexed scientific journals, communications at national and international scientific congresses), with a weight of 25%.
Sub-criterion A2 – Contribution to the development of individuals and/or research groups (teaching, supervision and guidance activities, participation in research projects, collaborative research activities), with a weight of 20%.
Sub-criterion A3 – Organisation of scientific events, with a weight of 5%.
Sub-criterion A4 – Recognition by the scientific community (awards for scientific merit, final classification of master's / bachelor's degree course), with a weight of 10%.
Criterion B – Work plan, including its alignment with the research conducted at the Research Unit and the hosting project as well as potential for societal impact, with a total weight of 40%.
Candidates whose application is evaluated with a final score below 15 points are not eligible for the scholarship.
