Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Applied Economics
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa is seeking applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Applied Economics. Candidates from any discipline are welcome, with priority for those interested in applied econometrics. The ideal candidate will address concrete issues using robust quantitative frameworks and propose an ambitious, world-class research program. The chairholder will conduct independent, externally funded research, actively contribute to graduate training, and join the Department of Economics to teach and supervise students.
Located on the unceded ancestral territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people, in Canada’s capital, the University of Ottawa is among the top 10 research institutions in Canada and the largest bilingual university in North America. It maintains strong ties with stakeholders, including organizations, governments, and policymakers, and benefits from proximity to federal institutions like Statistics Canada.
Tier 1 Chairs, renewable once after seven years, are awarded to exceptional researchers recognized as world leaders in their field. Each provides $200,000 annually for seven years. Candidates must be full professors or associate professors expected to become full professors within one to two years, or possess equivalent qualifications if from outside academia. New chairholders may also receive infrastructure funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation.

Prerequisites: Ph.D. in economics or a related discipline; exceptional research record in the CRC field; strong teaching and graduate supervision experience; external research funding; excellent communication skills in English or French; active knowledge of the second official language required for tenure; bilingualism is an asset.
Functions: Teaching, scholarly activities including research, service to the university community, and supervision of graduate students.
Rank and salary: Tenure-track professorial position in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Salary starts at $131,803 for full professors or $109,776 for associate professors, commensurate with qualifications and experience, per the collective agreement.
