Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Indigenous Sovereignty, Creative, Health, and Well-Being
Located in downtown Toronto, the School of Professional Communications in The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Indigenous Sovereignty, Creative, Health, and Well-Being. Conditional upon a successful CRC application and subject to final budgetary approval, the successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, effective July 1, 2027.
This position is restricted to candidates who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, Inuit peoples, or Indigenous peoples of North America.
We seek an outstanding emerging scholar in Professional Communication with a strong background in Indigenous studies, health communication, and creative practice. The CRC will become a full member of the School of Professional Communication at The Creative School and will teach courses in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
The CRC in Indigenous Creative Sovereignty, Health, and Well-Being aims to develop collaborative research partnerships with Indigenous artists, knowledge keepers, cultural practitioners, and health organizations.
The successful candidate will engage in research, teaching and service duties.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Doctoral degree or equivalent in Indigenous Studies, Communication, Fine Arts, Health Humanities, or a related discipline. Nominees for Tier 2 Chair positions should be Assistant or Associate Professors or possess equivalent qualifications.

- Demonstrated potential for international recognition.
- Potential to attract trainees and propose innovative research program.
- Excellence in research, creative practice, or community engagement related to Indigenous knowledge systems.
- Record of external funding, publications, exhibitions.
- Experience in community-based research grounded in Indigenous worldviews.
- Evidence of engagement with Indigenous communities.
- Commitment to Indigenization, decolonial praxis, EDI.
- Teaching ability in communication courses.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultural safety frameworks.
Salary minima: Assistant $103,916.30, Associate $131,194.32 per annum.
