Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions
- Electrical Maintenance: Performs various electrical maintenance tasks including (but not limited to) troubleshooting and repairing lighting fixtures and controls, troubleshooting and repairing power and lighting circuits, troubleshooting and repairing motor and control circuits, troubleshooting and repairing power distribution systems and transformers.
- Electrical Projects: Performs various small to medium sized projects that require running conduit, setting various junction/outlet boxes, pulling & terminating wire and installing fixtures & devices.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings. A working knowledge of the National Electric Code is preferred.
- Provides after hours overtime work as required (Sporting events, concerts, graduations and other events).
- Participates in emergency call-back roster on a rotating basis. Attends scheduled training as required to maintain mechanical skills, technical qualifications and licensing requirements.
- Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation. Operator will ensure vehicles are maintained in safe operating condition prior to use. Reports defective vehicle, tools and equipment to the shop foreman/tradesman leader.
- Assists with on-the-job training program for personnel enrolled in the apprenticeship training program where applicable.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years on-the-job experience as a journey electrician.
- Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
Pay Range
$21.39 - $27.84 - $34.23
