Organization Overview
The Comparative Bioscience Center (CBC) provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
Overview
The Training Specialist oversees the development and delivery of training programs for personnel working with animals, including CBC staff and investigators, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. This role involves creating training materials, conducting hands-on sessions, developing online content, and assessing competency, particularly in areas such as animal handling, surgical procedures, and regulatory compliance.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Training Development and Delivery
- On-boarding and Orientation
- Curriculum Creation
- Hands-on Training with Competency Assessment
- Communication and Coordination
- Record Keeping to uphold Regulatory Compliance
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Biology, or a related life science field
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory animal research setting, including a demonstrated track record of training staff in technical procedures and bio-methodology
- In-depth knowledge of the PHS Policy, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and USDA regulations
- Strong proficiency in maintaining meticulous training records and annual reporting data, ensuring all documentation is "audit-ready" for regulatory bodies
- Proven ability to assist scientists with research model development and the refinement of technical skills to ensure study objectives are met while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) Certification (Preferred)
