JOB SUMMARY:
The Transition Counselor supports the delivery of Beacon College's college readiness programs by providing individualized transition coaching, facilitating student and family engagement, and contributing to recruitment and enrollment efforts.
This role manages a caseload of college readiness students while also supporting outreach, application processes, and on-campus engagement activities. The Transition Counselor plays a key role in preparing students for successful transition to college through coaching, programming, and collaboration with admissions and college readiness teams.
DUTIES AND TASKS:
College Readiness Counseling Responsibilities for Student Caseload
- Manage a caseload of college readiness students, providing individualized transition coaching and ongoing support.
- Develop and implement personalized transition plans addressing executive functioning, self-advocacy, social skills, emotional regulation, and independent living skills.
- Facilitate one-on-one coaching sessions with students and maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress.
- Design and deliver workshops, webinars, and programming for students and parents related to college readiness and transition-to-college topics.
- Monitor and document student progress, maintaining accurate and timely records within institutional systems.
- Provide end-of-program reporting and recommendations for continued student development.
- Serve as a resource to families, students, and professionals regarding Beacon College's transition model and college readiness programming.
College Readiness Recruitment Responsibilities
- Support recruitment of college readiness students through outreach, presentations, and conversations with prospective students and families.
- Assist in managing prospective student pipelines, including follow-up with inquiries and encouraging completion of in-progress applications.
- Review and process college readiness applications in collaboration with program leadership.
- Participate in outreach to schools, professionals, and community partners to promote college readiness programs.
- Collaborate with Admissions and College Readiness staff to support enrollment goals and pipeline development.
Campus Engagement & Events
- Participate in on-campus recruitment activities, including campus tours, open houses, and other enrollment events.
- Support virtual and in-person information sessions and workshops for prospective students and families.
- Represent Beacon College in a professional and engaging manner during recruitment and outreach activities.
Collaboration & Program Support
- Participate in the College's triadic model, supporting transition-related programming for incoming undergraduate students.
- Teach 1-2 short-term Independent Living/College Living workshops during each summer program.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Admissions, College Readiness, and Student Success to support student transition and enrollment.
- Contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts through data collection and feedback.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
- Master's degree required in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with students with learning differences and/or ADHD (required).
- Experience in college readiness programming, student coaching, or transition support (preferred).
- Experience in admissions, recruitment, or enrollment management (preferred).
Skills:
- Strong coaching and advising skills, including the ability to support students with diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage students, families, and professionals.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage both caseload and recruitment pipeline.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and student information systems (Salesforce preferred).
- Effective presentation and facilitation skills for workshops and virtual programming.
Abilities:
- Ability to balance dual responsibilities of student support and recruitment with professionalism and consistency.
- Ability to build trust-based relationships with students and families navigating the transition-to-college process.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, regional environment while remaining highly responsive and organized.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Ability to maintain a professional and patient approach when working with students, parents, and other Beacon College community members.
