Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
The Transplant Financial Coordinator assists transplant patients with financially planning for their transplant surgery and future medical needs as well as assuring billing compliance. Incumbent will assess the patient's detailed insurance benefit information, advise patient regarding insurance issues and completes a financial review with patients and family members during the initial evaluation. Serves as a resource for patients and family members on financial matters throughout the transplant/donation process. Functions as a member of the Patient Selection Committee by providing up-to-date and accurate input regarding each patient's financial clearance. Works in conjunction with the Outreach Coordinator to establish and maintain business relationships with medical groups and external case managers to increase referrals and improve patient experience and efficiency of evaluation process. Advises leadership and colleagues on financial/insurance processes for transplant as it relates to new policies and protocols. Educates various audiences (both clinical and non-clinical) regarding insurance coverage, contracting, criteria for transplant listing and transplant program financial protocols.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology
- Four years' experience in a related field or similar position, or a Bachelor's degree in business, health, accounting or related field, etc. ; or four years in combination of education and experience
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Demonstrated work experience with computer software programs such as MSOffice
- Demonstrated work experience interpreting and communicating health plan/insurance benefit coverage
- Demonstrated experience working in a hospital or medical office setting
- Demonstrated experience with referral authorization process
