TRIO Student Support Services Advisor (MnSCU Academic Professional 2)
Job Description
This position provides individualized, holistic advising services to TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) students to better enable them to cope with barriers and adjust to college; specifically in the areas of academic, financial, transfer, career, and general advising. The incumbent will lead TRIO SSS students toward a shared goal of academic success, persistence, graduation, advocacy, and transfer to a four-year academic institution. This position will also assist the TRIO Director in the day-to-day facilitation and ongoing maintenance of the SSS Program.
Salary Range:
$25.67-37.26/hour, $53,599-77,799 annually
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in advising, social work, applied psychology, or psychology. Master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; or Associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience.
- Skills in communication, both oral and written, in individual and group settings via phone or in person, sufficient to motivate students and influence behavior or turn a situation around and work with colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.
- Knowledge of computer software applications and systems sufficient to enter data and create basic business correspondence, documents, and training presentations.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with the internal and external college and community, including students, peers, key contacts, and stakeholders.
- Ability to use analytic reasoning to identify alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
Preferred Qualification
- Bachelor degree in related field and two (2) years of experience working in higher education.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and local college statutes and regulations to ensure compliance in all facets of a program.
- Knowledge of current academic requirements for majors, minors, and certificates of the college.
- Knowledge of the MinnState Student Record System (ISRS) and Workday.
- Ability to relate to individuals and groups of students through the use of a variety of communication techniques (i.e., presentations, workshops, face-to-face, etc.), helping skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take the initiative to do a job without regular help and advice from others.
- Skills in planning, organizing, decision making, coordinating, and communicating sufficiently to perform student advising services.
