Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.
Major/Essential Functions
- Generate original and innovative ideas, logically break down material problems into their essential elements and develop solutions.
- Execute research projects in cooperation with supervisor.
- Assist students with their research projects as needed.
- Publish 4-5 peer-review papers per year in high impact factor in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Participate in developing research concepts and grant proposals in cooperation with supervisor.
- Conduct research in the appropriate field of fiber characterization including cotton and other fibers.
- Help maintain laboratory instruments.
- Maintain close awareness of scientific literature related to fiber characterization.
Required Qualifications
PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Plant and Soil Science, Polymer Science, Textile Engineering, other engineering, or related field of study.
- Experience in cotton fiber testing, classification, characterization, and textile processing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent data analysis skills.
- Experience in planning, conducting, and/or supervision of original research.
- Hands on experience and interpretation knowledge of data generated from fiber and yarn testing equipment.
- Extensive experience in data analysis and statistical methods.
- Experience in programming/scripting (e.g., python, Matlab, R, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal skills to work in team environment.
Pay Range
$48,000 - $63,700 - $78,400
