Tutor (Biology)
Position is required as part of a grant between Workforce Partnerships and two employee partners. Position provides online support to students enrolled in the R2RN program. Adult Education (AE) tutors scaffold students to become independent learners and to transition from tutorial support as they enter CCRI pathways. The CCRI R2RN/Ladders to Licensure tutors provide foundational academic instruction in a partnership with employers to support incumbent healthcare workers pursuing nursing qualifications.
Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring online to students struggling with the Biology 2010, Anatomy & Physiology (A & P) course. Document tutoring outcomes; attendance, progress, and session notes in shared Google document. Be aware of student support services. Meet weekly with course instructor.
Work schedule: Part-time-7 hours per week (includes 6 hours tutoring, and 1 hour meeting with Professor). Wednesday 1 - 3 pm; Thursday 1 - 3 pm; Friday 10 - 12 pm; additional hour for check-in with Faculty
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide online tutoring to individuals and small groups.
- Support students in Bio 2010, Anatomy and Physiology (A & P) concepts and course matter.
- Review organizational and study strategies with students.
- Participate in departmental and inter-departmental meetings and attend in-service and other job-related training.
- Support students during in-classroom lectures and activities. Meet weekly with the course instructor.
- Reinforce and review concepts taught in class.
- Act as a role model for students by demonstrating good study skills and community building.
- Serve as a first point of contact for students outside of class hours.
- Refer students to college support services and other college departments when necessary.
- Communicate with campus coordinator to ensure continued success operation of the program.
- Document tutoring outcomes-track attendance, progress, and session notes.
- Determine students? level of proficiency and adjust activities accordingly to meet the needs of English Language Learners, Adult Basic Education and Adult Secondary Education students.
- Perform other related duties as required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor?s degree
- Familiarity with foundational healthcare skills required: (ex: using Latin and Greek roots to decode terminology, communication in context of HIPAA).
- Experience with anatomy & physiology concepts and course matter.
- Experience motivating students in the learning process and understanding differentiation and universal design
- Excellent interpersonal communication
- Knowledge and proficiency in Google G-Suite and/or Microsoft Office
- Three years of experience working with adult students or adults with learning difficulties in higher education.
- Demonstrated advocacy and commitment to student success and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by community college and developmental education students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Blackboard, Zoom, MS Teams, and Webex
