Two (2) Open Rank WOT – Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Transfusion Medicine
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, has two (2) full-time academic positions available at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor without tenure (WOT) on the clinician-educator pathway. Responsibilities include teaching residents, fellows, medical students, and medical laboratory scientist program undergraduates.
The UW Transfusion Medicine Division’s mission is to deliver the best transfusion medicine care and advance the field through innovation, excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Core values are patient care, quality, safety, transparency, and academic integrity.
The Transfusion Medicine Division provides comprehensive transfusion services across facilities including Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center Montlake and Northwest campuses, and the Fred Hutch Cancer Center. It manages the transfusion of approximately 70,000 units annually, including specialized products, and supports programs such as pre-hospital transfusion, high-risk obstetrics, and sickle cell disease.
Successful candidates will join the Transfusion Medicine Division faculty, sharing clinical call coverage, providing consultations for cases like massive transfusions and alloimmunization, overseeing operations and quality initiatives, and engaging in patient blood management activities. They will also participate in teaching, mentoring, and scholarly activities. Estimated effort: 40% clinical coverage, 30% operations and quality oversight, and 30% research, teaching, and mentoring.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments; Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments, aligning with a 12-month service period. The position is full-time with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025, but flexible.
Base salary range: Assistant Professors $19,024 to $22,596 per month; Associate Professors $22,706 to $27,441 per month; Professors $26,486 to $32,456 per month, commensurate with experience.
Successful candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., MD/PhD or foreign equivalent, be board-certified in relevant specialties, and board eligible or certified in Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking. They must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington state.
