Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Atherosclerosis Imaging Research Program within the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine offers a unique opportunity for an Ultrasound Technician to support the Atherosclerosis Imaging Research Program's current projects. We offer a professional enriching and rewarding position, in a highly regarded ultrasound core lab, with exposure to a research setting, great team work approach and flexible hours.

We are a successful research lab supported by multiple grant funding streams. We are looking for a detail oriented, organized, personable and inquisitive sonographer, that is interested in a part time position in a low stress environment.

  • This position is part-time, 10-40% FTE
  • The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire
  • Terminal, 12 month appointment
  • This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
  • This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Explains the diagnostic procedure to patients and responds to related patient questions following established protocol
  • Identifies and documents any unexpected results that may indicate the need for further testing or immediate medical attention
  • Follows study specific scanning protocols with required documentation
  • Operates ultrasound equipment and assists patients with ambulation during procedures to ensure accurate data collection and to minimizing patient exposure to high-amplitude sound waves
  • Assesses the need to adapt the planned procedures to achieve optimal results and confers with medical personnel

The University of Wisconsin Atherosclerosis Imaging Research Program (UW AIRP) is an ultrasound core laboratory for clinical and epidemiological research studies that use ultrasound, electrocardiographic, exercise, and other physiologic research tools to quantify atherosclerosis, arterial injury, and cardiovascular disease risk.

Compensation:

The starting pay rate for the position is $30 per hour; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered vascular or cardiac sonographer (RVT, RDCS)
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, specifically Excel
  • Adobe PDF form proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 months of carotid/duplex scanning experience.
  • Work experience in an academic institution, with exposure to research protocols, IRB regulations, HIPAA training, etc.

Education:

Associate’s Degree required with a focus in field of study preferred including classes in anatomy, physics, physiology and clinical experience hours
