It is hereby announced that, for a period of 15 working days counting from the day immediately following the publication of this notice in the Journal of the Republic (Diário da República), an international documentary competition is open for the recruitment, under a public employment contract of indefinite duration, of one Assistant Researcher in the scientific area of Biological Sciences, for the performance of duties in science management and analysis, science communication and knowledge transfer, and technical-scientific support to the management of the R&D Unit MED – Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development, of the Institute for Research and Advanced Training of the University of Évora, under the terms of the Scientific Research Career Statute, published in Annex I to Law No. 55/2025, of 28 April (ECIC), and other applicable legislation, namely the Regulation for Competitions for the Recruitment of Scientific Research Career Staff and Specially Recruited Researchers of the University of Évora (hereinafter referred to as the Regulation), approved by Order No. 11340/2025 (2nd series), of 25 September.
The tasks assigned to this Assistant Research include: carrying out duties in science management, scientific information analysis, science communication, knowledge transfer and technical-scientific support to the MED Board of Directors, monitoring, evaluation, scientific development and enhancement of the impact of research; ensuring the management and integrated analysis of scientific and institutional information relating to scientific activity and output, impact assessment and the mapping of competences, networks and infrastructures; designing, managing and developing scientific information systems and analytical tools to support decision-making; science communication and knowledge valorisation; managing MED’s Open Science activities, including the implementation of FAIR Data practices, repository curation and valorisation of the Unit’s scientific outputs; and supporting the preparation, structuring and monitoring of institutional and competitive applications.
The recruited researcher may be assigned teaching duties, up to a maximum of four hours per week, on an annual average, which may include responsibility for curricular units in the different study cycles and for postgraduate training courses in the respective area of specialisation.
Joint Order No. 373/2000, of 31 March, of the Minister for State Reform and Public Administration and the Minister for Equality, requires the following statement to be included in recruitment and promotion competitions:

In accordance with Article 10 of the ECIC and other applicable legislation, and pursuant to Article 6 of the Regulation, the following provisions shall apply:
I. Authorisation Order — This competition was authorised by order of July 09, 2026 of the Rector of the University of Évora.
II. Workplace and remuneration:
II.1. The workplace: MED — Instituto Mediterrâneo para a Agricultura, Ambiente e Desenvolvimento, Polo da Mitra, 7000-083 Évora.
II.2. The gross monthly remuneration is €3576,56, corresponding to step 1, index 195, of the Assistant Researcher category, as set out in the remuneration regime for career researchers defined in Decree-Law No. 408/89, of 18 November.
III. Admission requirements — Under Article 10 of the ECIC, candidates who have held a doctoral degree for more than five years may apply for the position of Assistant Researcher:
- a) In the scientific area of Biological Sciences;
- b) In scientific areas considered by the selection panel to be related to those for which the competition is opened;
- c) In different areas, provided that they have a scientific curriculum vitae considered relevant by the selection panel in the areas referred to in the previous subparagraphs.
III.1. If the doctorate was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, candidates are admitted to the contest in accordance with paragraph e) of Number 2 of Article 4 of Decree-Law No. 60/2018 of August 3, and the registration/recognition of the degree in Portugal must be completed after the end of the competition, under the terms set forth in Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16, and is only required at the time of hiring.
IV. Admission requirements on absolute merit — Approval on absolute merit depends on the demonstration of a scientific, technical and professional track record considered relevant by the selection panel for the category of Assistant Researcher and for the functional content of the position, with evidence of experience in science management, management and analysis of scientific and institutional information, science communication, knowledge transfer and other activities relevant to the mission of MED.
For the purposes of approval on absolute merit, candidates must cumulatively meet the following requirements:
- a) Experience in a scientific-institutional context related to the scientific areas of the R&D Unit MED – Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development, namely in the fields of biological sciences, agriculture, environment, sustainability, biodiversity, territorial development and agro-environmental systems;
- b) Experience and knowledge of the functioning of R&D Units operating in areas relevant to the scientific mission of MED, including scientific and operational organisation, science management mechanisms and articulation with management bodies, researchers, internal structures and external entities;
- c) Proven experience of at least four years in the management, organisation and analysis of scientific and institutional data within R&D Units, in the scientific domains of MED, including technical-scientific support to the respective governing or management bodies, namely in the management and analysis of scientific and institutional information, production of key performance indicators (KPIs), scientific mapping and monitoring of scientific activity;
- d) Relevant experience in Open Science management in the context of R&D Units, including repository curation, metadata normalisation, compliance with open access policies, researcher capacity-building and valorisation of scientific outputs in the context of Open Science;
- e) Proven experience of at least four years in science-society relations, coordination of communication and dissemination of results, organisation of scientific events, knowledge transfer and valorisation, as well as the development and management of digital science communication platforms, including institutional websites, in the context of an R&D Unit and in the scientific domains of MED.
V. Methodology and criteria for ranking and assessment, respective weighting and final classification system, including tie-breaking criteria:
V.1. The application of the assessment parameters focuses on the activities carried out by the candidates, with relevance to the scientific area or areas in which the competition is opened, and must include an assessment of the relevance, quality and timeliness of:
- a) The candidate’s scientific performance, based on the analysis of the works included in the curriculum vitae, namely those selected by the candidate as most representative of their contribution to the development and evolution of the scientific area or areas;
- b) The candidate’s teaching ability, under the terms defined in the notice opening the competition, where applicable;
- c) The candidate’s activities in knowledge transfer, science and society, and science management, where applicable;
- d) The research and scientific-technological development project that candidates propose to develop in the scientific areas of the R&D Unit MED, with application to that same Unit;
- e) Other activities relevant to the mission of the University of Évora that have been carried out by the candidate.
V.2. The selection method is curricular assessment. Curricular assessment, bearing in mind the functions assigned to researchers under the ECIC, focuses on the following areas:
- a) Research, with a weighting factor of 40%, comprising the following parameters:
- i) Scientific publications: this parameter takes into account books, book chapters and articles in scientific journals authored or co-authored by the candidate, with 10%;
- ii) Participation in and coordination of national and international scientific research projects funded on a competitive basis, with 5%;
- iii) Design, development and implementation of scientific intelligence infrastructures, systems or digital tools for the management of scientific information in R&D Units, in the scientific domains of MED, with 10%;
- iv) Collection and analysis of scientific and institutional indicators in an R&D Unit, in the scientific domains of MED, with 10%;
- v) Mapping of competences of researchers and teams and organisation of scientific articulation initiatives in R&D Units, with 5%.
- b) Teaching, with a weighting factor of 5%, assessed globally through experience in teaching, student supervision and coordination or participation in pedagogical projects.
- c) Knowledge transfer, with a weighting factor of 15%, comprising the following parameters:
- i) Intellectual and industrial property, considering patent applications, granted patents or licensed patents in which the candidate appears as inventor or co-inventor, with 5%;
- ii) Science-society relations, assessed through experience in communication in R&D Units, including dissemination of results, organisation of scientific and outreach events, articulation with stakeholders, as well as the development and management of digital science communication platforms, including institutional websites, with 10%.
- d) Scientific and academic management, with a weighting factor of 20%, comprising the following parameters:
- i) Technical-scientific support to the management bodies of R&D Units, in the scientific domains of MED, including monitoring and assessment of scientific activity, development and use of decision-support systems, preparation and monitoring of institutional applications for structural or multiannual funding, support to external evaluation processes, institutional reporting and articulation with funding entities, with 10%;
- ii) Open Science management in an R&D Unit, including curation of scientific output, metadata, interoperability, compliance with FCT/EU policies, researcher capacity-building and valorisation of scientific outputs, with 5%;
- iii) Promotion, structuring and operationalisation of partnerships, protocols, institutional networks and national and international scientific initiatives, including articulation with external entities and organisation of scientific interface events in R&D Units, with 5%;
- e) Training and professional experience, assessed according to the suitability of the candidate’s academic degrees, titles, professional qualifications, complementary training and professional experience to the scientific area of the competition, to the category of Investigador Auxiliar and to the functional content of the position, with a weighting factor of 5%.
- f) Research and scientific-technological development project that candidates propose to develop in the scientific areas of the R&D Unit MED, with application to that same Unit, aimed at enhancing the research developed within the centre, strengthening science management, valorising scientific data and results, promoting Open Science and knowledge transfer, with a weighting factor of 15%.
VI. Public Auditions — Pursuant to Article 13(5), of the Regulations, the panel may decide on the need to hold public auditions for all admitted candidates, which are intended solely to clarify the information contained in the candidates' CVs. All candidates shall be informed, at least five working days in advance, of the date and place where these hearings will take place. They may be held by videoconference, and the panel shall ensure that they are held under the same conditions for all candidates.
