University Faculty Athletic Training and Occupational Therapy
Job Description
The Department of Athletic Training and Occupational Therapy in the Dumke College of Health Professions at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2027 (a January 1, 2027 start date may be negotiable). This is a university faculty position with academic rank based upon the appointees academic and experiential qualifications. The position is eligible for tenure-track.
Job Duties
This individual will teach courses in the CAATE-accredited Master of Science in Athletic Training program and the undergraduate Rehabilitation Sciences program. This faculty member will also mentor graduate students in their masters thesis research projects and participate in the departments thesis courses alongside other faculty. This faculty member will instruct, mentor, provide feedback, and evaluate students within their areas of expertise and interest, and will ensure the availability of remedial instruction. This individual will also be responsible for ongoing curricular assessment in their courses and active participation in the development, initiation, and incorporation of instructional experiences within the curriculum design for both programs. This faculty member will represent the Department of Athletic Training & Occupational Therapy through service on department, college, and university-level committees as time allows. Participation in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the department within academic, lay, and professional communities is encouraged. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- License in good standing as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Utah (or eligible - must obtain by start date)
- Academic (PhD) or clinical doctoral degree (DAT, DPT, etc.) minimum
- Clinical experience as a certified athletic trainer
- Teaching experience in athletic training, orthopedics, and/or sports medicine
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 or more years of recent clinical experience as a certified athletic trainer.
- Advanced manual therapy training and certifications (e.g., Licensed Massage Therapist, IASTM, cupping, joint mobilization/manipulation) with demonstrated hands-on clinical practice
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with the use of computers for organization, word processing, and communication.
- Experience mentoring college students in developing, conducting, and disseminating research.
- Experience and/or a strong interest in teaching manual therapy and therapeutic rehabilitation.
- Knowledge of CAATE accreditation requirements
- Record of scholarship through research and publication
