University Faculty Automotive Technology
Job Description
The Automotive Technology Department at Weber State University has an opening for a faculty position. Faculty teaching duties include the preparation and delivery of courses required for the Automotive Technology associate of applied science (AAS) degree offered by WSU. Courses include, but are not limited to, diagnosis and service of all makes and models of vehicle systems across nine ASE areas. Teaching duties may also include various upper-division courses. Candidates must be willing to receive further training in advanced vehicle technologies, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
This is a full-time, 9-month teaching position starting Fall 2026.
The individual may be required to coordinate visits with dealerships/shops to assess student progress. Duties also include organizing shop facilities; maintaining lab vehicles; developing course materials; recruiting new students; coordinating with manufacturer partners, dealers, government agencies and independent service personnel; and providing service to the institution.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of automotive industry experience
- B.S. Degree in Automotive Service Technology or equivalent for instructor
- M.S. Degree (and approval of Automotive faculty and college dean) for tenure-track
- ASE Master Certified A Series
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient with automotive service information and diagnostic support software
- Extensive automotive system, diagnostic, and service technical knowledge
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Individual must be highly motivated, willing to accept new challenges, and able to complete tasks with minimal direction
- Ability to work skillfully with highly technical diagnostic equipment, including: Scan Tools, Lab Scopes, DMMs, HVAC Equipment, Vibration Diagnostic Equipment, etc.
- Excellent communication, evaluation and interpersonal skills required
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and work environments
- Ability to handle complex classroom learning situations
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work well with both internal and external customers and coworkers in a team setting
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field
- Automotive Management
- ASE L1 Certification
- Automotive instructional experience
- Automotive curriculum development knowledge or experience
- Public speaking experience
- Electric and Hybrid Vehicle xEV Level 1 and 2
