UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
The Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN COMPUTER SCIENCE for a permanent appointment starting in November 2025 or later as agreed. The employment includes a six-month trial period.
The lecturer will be attached to the Liberal Arts and Sciences Bachelor’s Programme currently under preparation at the University and launching in Fall semester 2026. This programme, led by the Faculty of Arts, joins together the faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Agriculture and Forestry, and Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Helsinki for its first broadly interdisciplinary international bachelor’s.
The recruit will have the unique opportunity to take part in designing and delivering a programme first of its kind in the University and in Finland. The pedagogical idea behind the programme is that through being exposed to, and needing to integrate diverse disciplinary outlooks, students will learn (alongside disciplinary skills) broadly useful meta-skills of interdisciplinary contextualisation, analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking.
The recruit will be responsible for setting up computer science-related courses and content included in the Liberal Arts and Sciences programme and coordinating activities with other faculties involved in the programme. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme will also require a plenty of student mentoring and supervision, which the recruit will also partake in.
In addition to the Liberal Arts and Science Bachelor’s programme, the recruit is expected to contribute to other teaching programs at the Department of Computer Science, for example BSc Programme in Computer Science, BSc Programme in Science, MSc Programme in Computer Science, or MSc Programme in Data Science, depending on the qualifications and language skills of the recruit.
