Assistant Teaching Professor (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Assistant Teaching Professor (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Part-Time Assistant Teaching Professor (0.6fte) on our MSt in Applied Criminology and Police Management course.

The MSt in Applied Criminology and Police Management is a two-year part-time course which offers a globally relevant framework for preserving and enhancing democratic policing in the face of international challenges through developing senior leaders in policing, law enforcement and associated organisations.

As one of the first programmes globally to embed scientific methods into senior police education, the MSt course has shaped the development of evidence-based policing (EBP) and established Cambridge as the intellectual home of this movement. The course has consistently pushed policing and public safety professionals to think critically, challenge assumptions, and apply rigorous research to pressing operational and policy challenges.

Coming with senior leadership experience from within the police service/law enforcement and educated to PhD level in Criminology/related discipline, the successful candidate will undertake a key role in the development and delivery of the programme. You will play a key role in the programme, developing links with police forces both in the UK and around the world, as well as teaching, supervision, admissions and assessment, with specialist contributions in areas such as experimental research in police field settings, neighbourhood policing, counterterrorism and border policing.

Please note that we are looking for someone with a flexible approach to meet the peak workload demands of the programme during certain periods of the year. Whilst some hybrid work is possible during the year, in-person attendance is required during the MSt residential teaching blocks which are 3 weeks at the end of March/early April; first 3 weeks of July and the first 3 weeks of September.

For your application to be considered please submit:

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A covering letter
  • The names and email addresses of three referees who are familiar with your work whom the University of Cambridge can contact for references
  • A teaching statement (no more than one A4 page) setting out your approach to teaching and the contributions they can make to the Institute of Criminology MSt in Applied Criminology and Police Management
  • If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application
