Level: Academic Level B - Level D
Position: Full-Time, 3 year fixed term (with potential 4th year, subject to performance)

The University of Newcastle is seeking up to six (6) world‑class researchers for the inaugural University of Newcastle Research Excellence Fellowships.

The Research Excellence Fellowships support and empower leading researchers with the vision and capability to drive innovation and interdisciplinary excellence.

Fellows will join a host centre or program aligned with their research strengths, gaining access to world class teams, infrastructure, and the University’s strong culture of mentorship and collaboration.

Fellows are appointed at an appropriate academic level (B, C or D). Current salary ranges are available on the Fellowship website.

Appointments will be made on a 3-year, full-time fixed-term contract, with the possibility of a 4th year subject to funding and performance.

In addition, each Fellow will receive $50,000 in startup funding to support their research.

Successful applicants may also be eligible for a relocation package and visa cost support where applicable.

  • Breathing and Lung Research Program
  • Centre for Bulk Solids and Particulate Technologies
  • Centre for Innovative Energy Technologies
  • Centre for Prevention, Implementation and Population Health
  • Global Sport and Movement Collaborative
  • HMRI Brain Health Research Program
  • HMRI Infection Research Program
  • Immune Health Research Program
  • Reproductive and Family Health Program

About you

You will be an emerging, mid-career, or senior researcher with:

  • A completed PhD (Level B applicants may be near completion).
  • A strong track record of research excellence appropriate to your level.
  • Evidence of collaboration, innovation and research leadership potential.
  • Commitment to a research culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Motivation to elevate research impact through interdisciplinary work.
