Senior Clinical Researcher in Experimental Cancer Therapeutics

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Senior Clinical Researcher in Experimental Cancer Therapeutics to join the Oxford Cancer Trials Department at the University of Oxford. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a programme of research trials and clinical cancer activity for the Department of Oncology and Oxford Cancer.

Our research focuses on the testing of novel therapies, on a bespoke 15 bedded ward incorporating a sample handling laboratory. You will work with one of our Principal Investigators, with a team of research nurses and clinical fellows. The successful applicant will work across a broad portfolio of studies, providing expertise in patient management and protocol compliance.

You will be responsible for developing, leading and executing early phase clinical trials and translational research, in collaboration with senior research staff from the Department of Oncology and the NHS. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic medical oncologist who has an established interest in early drug development. You will closely work with several different teams within the translational research groups of the Department of Oncology, the CRUK Oxford Centre and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, particularly the Translational Histopathology Laboratory, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and the Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre.

You will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust/University of Oxford and external accrediting bodies.

An honorary contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be required for the successful candidate.

About you

You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or MD) in a relevant field and full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council or to be eligible for registration within 6 months of interview. Your expertise will include experience working within early phase cancer trials, and teaching and training students.

You will have a track record of translational research. You must also hold (or be within 6 months of award) of a CCT (or equivalent) by the date of interview.

Specific expertise in early phase cancer trial design and development, of working with industry and experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees would be advantageous.
