  • Base Salary $156,277 (HEO10) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

Join the University of Sydney as the Senior Manager, Curriculum Market Research, where you will lead curriculum-focused market research to inform course design and development. With a focus on understanding student and audience preferences, behaviour, and expectations across diverse degree types, study experiences and learning needs, the market research and analysis undertaken will help guide curriculum design and development.

The Senior Manager, Curriculum Market Research will work closely with senior leaders and support the Deputy Registrar and Executive Director (Curriculum and Policy) in the delivery of curriculum market research across the Division of the Academic Registrar and the Education and Students Portfolio. The role will oversee the team responsible for qualitative and quantitative research for curriculum. The research led and undertaken by the Senior Manager will ensure a student- and market-informed baseline for the curriculum and course development process. The Senior Manager, Curriculum Market Research leads a team that produces research that cultivates a university-wide understanding of emerging opportunities, risks, and curriculum, market, industry, labor market and policy shifts that influence educational offerings and learning needs. The role oversees staff and project contributors, builds high-trust relationships, championing an insight-led culture across the Education and Students Portfolio.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead and support a team to deliver high-quality curriculum market research, providing insights on student preferences, learning behaviors and global higher education trends, to inform new courses and course enhancement
  • help to inform strategic decisions on curriculum, courses, positioning, and student lifecycle management by producing and overseeing Political, Economic, Social and Technological (PEST), competitor, and opportunity analyses
  • lead the integration of curriculum market research through key strategic projects aligned with curriculum innovation and insights on external market information, labor market and skills demand data, and primary market research findings
  • uplift curriculum market research capability by establishing consistent standards, frameworks, and tools
  • manage the execution of surveys, journals, focus groups, interviews, and other research activities across diverse student cohorts
  • cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across faculties and University schools.

About you

  • experience leading market research activities in a large or complex organisation, ideally within the higher education sector
  • expertise in qualitative and quantitative research design, including surveys, focus groups, user testing, and audience segmentation
  • demonstrated ability to interpret, synthesise and translate diverse data sources, including market, industry, labour, and curriculum insights into strategic recommendations
  • experience working with external partners and vendors to deliver co‑designed research programmes
  • strong understanding of curriculum design principles, higher education trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor analysis
  • excellent communication, reporting and facilitation skills
  • proven ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders, students, staff and external partners.
