Offer Description
The candidate for the position of Research Assistant Professor / Post-Doc / Leader Team No. 5: Fiber optic sensors and subsystems in the MAB FENG project entitled "Centre of Excellence for Structured Fiber Optics and Applications" will perform the following tasks:
The person employed in this position will be responsible for developing two universal fiber-optic sensor platforms, including those based on D-shaped fibers and all-fiber ARF fibers, using appropriate surface structuring and microfluidic/gas systems, as well as for developing demonstrators of biochemical sensors and distributed quantum sensors. The position also involves publishing research results in highly ranked scientific journals, contributing to the technology-transfer activities, actively participating in the scientific life of the Centre, and training early-career researchers.
Within the research team led by the successful candidate, the project will provide funding for at least one doctoral candidate or early-career postdoctoral researcher until 31 December 2029, as well as technical support for the team

Candidates for the position of Research Team Leader No. 5: Fiber optic sensors and subsystems in the research staff group must meet the conditions set out in the University of Warsaw Statutes:
- A PhD in science or engineering, preferably in physics, chemistry, mathematics, or technical sciences in the field of electronics, material engineering or computer science
- Having a scientific track record documented by scientific publications and experience in theoretical or experimental research involving passive, active, specialty optical fibers, or in modeling linear and nonlinear phenomena—including the use of deep learning methods—in the field of optical fibers and optical phenomena or in optical glass synthesis or in the fabrication of specialty optical fibers.
- At least five years of experience working in research teams, including experience in international research teams, foreign research institutions or industry; documented participation in research projects as a principal investigator or team member; and the potential to lead a research team, including the supervision of early-career researchers and doctoral candidates.
- Ability to conduct independent experimental research aligned with the subject matter of the project.
- Research experience in experimental work, developing solutions and building demonstrators, as well as experience in cooperation with industry or in research commercialisation.
- Experience with or knowledge of the MATLAB, LabVIEW or Python computational environments, or expertise in optical glass synthesis, specialty optical fibre fabrication processes, or specialty optical fibre metrology.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Fulfillment of the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Dz.U. 2024, poz. 1571 t.j.).
Specific Requirements
The total professional involvement of project personnel in the implementation of all projects financed by EU funds (as well as activities financed from other sources, including the beneficiary's own resources and other entities), regardless of the form of engagement (employment contract, mandate contract, contract for specific work, self-employment), must not exceed 276 hours per month.

Benefits
Work temporarily on a full-time job at the Centre of Excellence for Structured Fiber Optics and Applications, University of Warsaw, ul. Pasteura 5, 02-093 Warsaw, on period until 31.12.2029. Commencement employment in the third quarter of 2026, Remuneration in accordance with the FNP regulations for team leadres ( PLN 420,000 gross-gross per year ).
Eligibility criteria
Each member of the selection committee evaluates each candidate by awarding points in three categories:
- Quality and originality of up to three of the candidate’s most significant scientific achievements from the last 10 years in the field of computational chemistry or related disciplines, assessed against international achievements in the field – maximum 25 points
- Experience in leading a research team or demonstrated potential to perform this role, including experience in supervising or co-supervising doctoral dissertations– maximum 25 points.
- Experience in carrying out grant-funded projects, both as a principal investigator and as a project team member– maximum 25 points.
- Experience in cooperation with industry or in the commercialisation of research results– maximum 25 points.
- Proficiency in English sufficient to manage an international research team– Yes/No (mandatory requirement).

The candidate must meet the requirements established by the FNP for persons employed in post-doctoral positions in MAB FENG projects.
The application deadline is scheduled for September 30, 2026. Selected candidates may be invited to an interview with a committee appointed by the Faculty Dean. The interview process will likely take place online via GMeet, Zoom, etc. Candidates will be notified individually by email by October 15, 2026. In the event of a withdrawal from the application, the position will be offered to the next candidate on the ranking list.
The successful candidate is required to submit original documents before commencing employment. If the candidate submits a declaration of a planned date for conferring a doctoral degree, a copy of the doctoral diploma or a certificate of conferment of the doctoral degree must be submitted. This announcement constitutes the first stage of the procedure for employing an academic teacher and its positive result will be the basis for further steps.
