Upward Bound - Columbus Instructor
The Upward Bound Instructor designs and delivers five weeks of instructional experience that supports the mission of the federal TRIO Upward Bound Program. Instruction includes the programs core subjects—Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Foreign Language, Composition, or Literature—for the 2026 Ohio State Upward Bound Columbus Summer Academy.

Job Summary
- Create engaging, student-centered lessons that build foundational knowledge, strengthen academic skills, and promote confidence in the designated subject area.
- Develop curriculum materials, facilitate interactive learning activities, assess student progress through a variety of methods, and foster a collaborative and supportive classroom environment.
- Play a key part in advancing scholars college readiness by encouraging critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to academic excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities
50% | Implement curriculum and assist students in learning.
15% | Develop and identify appropriate tools, methods, technology, and actions to support curricula outcomes.
15% | Create assignments, grading rubrics, task schedules, and other pedagogical materials.
10% | Design curriculum and teaching goals to support assignments and curricula outcomes.
10% | Grade assignments, work with program staff to identify students in need of tutoring, and provide practice materials for tutoring as needed.
Education and Experience Requirement
- A bachelors degree or equivalent experience in the relevant field, or fluency in the language being taught, is required.
- Minimum of one year of experience teaching relevant subject(s) at the undergraduate level and/or a certificate to teach at the 9-12 high school level.
- Qualified applicants should be graduates of or graduate students with an advanced knowledge of and ability to apply statistical methods to practical research problems.
- High comfort level with Microsoft Office applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively with high school-age students.
