Position: Utility Distribution Worker III
Nature of Work
Join a team where your technical skills keep the Mizzou campus
running. As a Utility Distribution Worker III, you’ll be
responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of essential
utility distribution systems including steam, condensate, potable
water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and chilled water
systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform journey level duties related to the installation,
operation, maintenance, inspection, repair or replacement of
underground utility facilities used in the distribution of steam,
potable water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer or chilled water. Follow
all safety procedures and requirements necessary to protect others
and oneself during work. - Perform work with tools and related equipment associated with
underground utility facilities used in the distribution of steam,
potable water sanitary sewer, storm sewer or chilled water
systems. - Perform trenching, digging, and backfilling operations,
including hand digging where necessary. - Coordinate utility outages. Provide emergency activities for
response, remediation and repair of steam, condensate, potable
water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and chilled water systems. - Coordinate with supervision and engineering on projects and
maintenance. Plan work, prepare material requirements, review
inventory needs, review schematics, review construction drawings,
and equipment manuals, and assist in maintaining equipment
maintenance records and reports. - Coordinate projects without detailed plans and specifications.
Job performance is evaluated by visual and mechanical inspections
for workmanship quality, conformance to specifications and accepted
standards of the trade and functional operations. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
Functional supervision may be provided by a lead person.
Administrative supervision received from designated supervisor.
Work assignments given orally or in writing.
Supervision Exercised
No supervision is exercised.

Worker IV

Shift
7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday
Minimum Qualifications
Personnel in the Utility Distribution Worker employee development
program:
Promotion from a Utility Distribution Worker II title after
successful completion of skill assessments and necessary
experience. The minimum time requirement in the Utility
Distribution Worker II title: two years
• Personnel not in the Utility Distribution Worker employee
development program: High school graduate or a combination of
education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
abilities can be acquired, is necessary.
• Four years of actual work experience and training, including the
equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training, in the trade
is required.
• Must pass a written test and skills assessment related to the
specific trade being performed.
• Steam & Water Pipefitting trade: Experience shall include at
least one year of working with 60 psig or greater steam systems.
Required to be qualified in the operation of a backhoe and other
construction equipment.
• Sewer Pipefitter trade: Required to be qualified in the operation
of a backhoe and other construction equipment.
• Welding trade: Required to be knowledgeable of the following
welding methods: Oxy-acetylene welding (OFW), shielded metal arc
welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), brazing and
soldering.
All Personnel:
• Must have ability to follow safety procedures and work
safely.
• Must have ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans,
schematics and drawings.
• Must be capable of working in manholes, tunnels and
excavations.
• Must be skilled in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and
materials associated with steam, condensate, potable water,
sanitary sewer, storm sewer and chilled water systems.
• Ability on a daily basis to:
- Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large
trade tools and equipment.
- Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (80 lbs.)
- Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move
equipment, controls, parts, etc.
- Visually assess maintenance, construction, and repair
needs.
- Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
- Work in areas where high levels of heat, moisture, dust, and
noise are present.
- Work in confined spaces such as manholes and tunnels.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment while
accomplishing assigned tasks.
• Must be able to work occasional overtime, including
weekends.
• May be required to possess a valid driver’s license, which will
allow legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of
Missouri.
Preferred Qualifications
Steam System experience is required for this position.
A valid State of Missouri CDL Driver’s License is required – Or CDL
must be obtained within six months of hire.
A valid State of Missouri Driver’s License must be held and
maintained by incumbents in the position.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
Grade: GGS-E
