About the Role

The Literacy and Numeracy Specialist works within the Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LND) Support program, which provides embedded foundation skills support to students enrolled in vocational education programs across a range of disciplines at RMIT's College of Vocational Education (CoVE). Delivered through a co-teaching model, the program focuses on strengthening students' vocational literacy, numeracy, digital and learning skills within the context of their vocational studies. Literacy and Numeracy Specialists work collaboratively with vocational teachers to support classroom delivery, develop contextualised learning resources and strategies, and contribute to inclusive teaching practices that enhance student engagement, participation and success across CoVE's priority programs.

About You

You are an enthusiastic and highly capable literacy and/or numeracy specialist with a passion for supporting learners to build confidence and strengthen their foundation skills. With strong experience and background in literacy and/or numeracy education, you bring the ability to deliver engaging, student-centred learning that supports diverse learner needs across vocational and educational settings.

You are recognised for your expertise in literacy, numeracy and digital literacy, and your ability to translate complex concepts into practical, accessible learning experiences. Whether your background comes from secondary school teaching, vocational education, or workplace training, you are committed to helping students strengthen their work-readiness skills, improve learning outcomes, and achieve success in their studies and future careers.

Candidates with a specialisation in numeracy or mathematics are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those with secondary school teaching experience and a genuine passion for teaching contextualised numeracy to adult vocational learners. The role also requires strong digital literacy, including AI literacy, and a willingness to learn and use emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.

Your collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and learner-focused approach enable you to work effectively with students, educators, and industry stakeholders in a dynamic educational environment. You are adaptable, supportive, and motivated by making a positive impact through education, bringing both professionalism and enthusiasm to every learning interaction.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in literacy and/or numeracy education, with the ability to deliver contextualised foundation skills support within vocational education settings
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching teams in a co-teaching environment to support inclusive teaching practices, student engagement and learner success

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching teams in a co-teaching environment to support inclusive teaching practices, student engagement and learner success.
  • Strong digital literacy skills and the ability to implement innovative technologies and digital tools to support teaching, learning and resource development
