Job Summary:
We are pleased to offer a unique opportunity to join UW Veterinary Care in a newly created role within our developing Surgical Oncology service. We are seeking a self-motivated, highly skilled Veterinary Nurse Assistant who thrives working independently, communicates effectively, and manages multiple priorities with confidence.
This position is ideal for someone eager to support the growth and success of a specialty service. You will collaborate closely with our Surgical Oncology nurse, as well as with the Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology teams. When the Surgical Oncology service is closed, this role will also provide support to Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology.

The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Flexibility may be required based on caseload and service availability, and we would be happy to discuss these details further during the interview process.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (10%)
- Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (20%)
- Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans (20%)
- Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (10%)
- Inventories and organizes supplies (10%)
- Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (15%)
- Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment (10%)

Compensation:
The starting hourly rate for the position is $18.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Required Qualifications:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
- Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience working in a teaching hospital
- Professional experience working in a surgery or oncology department
Education:
High School Diploma Preferred
