Veterinary Clinician
About This Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Veterinary Clinician to lead our Large & Production Animal Service within the UQ VETS Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Gatton. This is an outstanding opportunity to combine clinical excellence with leadership, delivering high-quality, relationship-centred care to cattle, sheep, goats, alpacas, pigs, and other production animals while shaping a collaborative, high-performing team culture. Working within a world-class teaching and research environment, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on animal health, client outcomes, and the future of veterinary practice.
Reporting to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Practice Manager, you will lead a team of veterinarians, manage complex hospital and ambulatory cases, and contribute to after-hours and emergency services as required. Beyond clinical practice, you will play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of veterinary professionals through teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision of students, interns, and junior clinicians. At UQ, you will join a community committed to excellence, innovation, and continuous learning, where your expertise, leadership, and passion for veterinary education can thrive.
Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Provide leadership across the Large & Production Animal Service by supporting daily operations, workforce planning, staff development, and service delivery, while fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
- Managing a diverse clinical caseload, including routine, complex, urgent and emergency presentations, and participating in an after‑hours and on‑call roster, with as‑needed equine primary call‑outs.
- Deliver high-quality, relationship-centred veterinary care across hospital and ambulatory settings, independently managing routine and complex large animal cases, supporting cross-service caseloads, and contributing to after-hours and on-call services.
- Mentor and develop veterinarians, students, interns, and residents through clinical leadership, teaching, supervision, and role modelling of professional, ethical, and evidence-based veterinary practice.
- Drive service excellence and growth through stakeholder engagement, client relationship management, continuous improvement initiatives, participation in hospital governance and professional development activities, and collaboration to achieve clinical, educational, and business outcomes.
