About The Team
The anaesthesia team offers specialty services in both anaesthesia and pain management. Our full range of facilities and state of the art anaesthesia equipment, coupled with integrated support from specialist 24h intensive care, internal medicine, advanced diagnostic imaging and excellent nursing standards enable us to manage the most complex anaesthesia challenges and ensure that our patients receive a very high standard of care across all aspects of anaesthesia management. You would be joining a team of seven veterinary nurses and the service operates 08:00 -18:00 Weekdays.
Your New Role!
The key purpose of this role is to provide high quality veterinary nursing care to animals in The Animal Hospital At Murdoch University.
Your Key responsibilities will include –
- Providing all aspects of veterinary nursing care as per the Certificate IV of Veterinary Nursing and the Prescribed Duties of Veterinary Nurses within the Vet Surgeons Act of WA.
- Oversee patient care before, during, and after anaesthesia.
- Assist clinicians with cases from admission, examination, anaesthesia, recovery and required pain management.
- Instruct students in correct methods of anaesthesia preparation; aseptic techniques and monitor the application and maintenance of those techniques.

Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Completion of a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent, or completion of a relevant Veterinary Nursing Diploma level qualification registrable in Western Australia.
- Demonstrated confidence and skill when handling and restraining small animals.
- Excellent organisational, time and workload management skills, including the ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
- Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative, assume responsibility for tasks and projects and to resolve problems.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as fitting seamlessly into a team environment.
Desirable
- Experience in a veterinary teaching hospital environment or teaching undergraduate students.
- Experience in specialist anaesthesia practices.
- Experience with computer systems used in veterinary practices, in particular EzyVet, Vet Radar and Cubex software.
- Experience and knowledge in the use and care of specialist equipment specific to the area of work.
