The University of Alaska Anchorage seeks an innovative, student-centered leader to serve as Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (VCEMSA). As the university's chief enrollment and student affairs officer, the VCEMSA reports directly to the Chancellor and serves as a member of the Chancellor's Executive Council.

Joining UAA during a period of sustained enrollment growth, the VCEMSA will build upon this positive momentum and lead the continued growth of the university, closely collaborating with academic and financial partners to assess, develop and lead strategic enrollment management plans.

UAA serves a highly varied student body, supported by a unique dual mission that spans technical training through graduate education. The VCEMSA must understand and champion a wide range of needs created by this unique mission. This leader is responsible for fostering a community that supports both residential and commuter students, in online and in person environments and is characterized by civility, belonging, safety, ethics, character education, and a strong emphasis on respect for others.

The Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (VCEMSA) serves as the chief enrollment and student affairs officer for the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). This senior leader partners closely with key institutional partners and peers across the UA System to analyze enrollment trends, shape strategy and execute initiatives that support student recruitment, retention, graduation and success across a large and complex division.

The VCEMSA reports to the UAA Chancellor and is a key member of the Executive Council. In this role, the VCEMSA advises the Chancellor and fellow senior leaders on emerging issues and opportunities related to enrollment, student development, campus climate and student well-being, providing support for undergraduate and graduate programs. This position oversees an extensive portfolio that spans the full student experience, from initial outreach through graduation, supporting students whose geographic, cultural, financial and personal needs reflect the broad range of communities and backgrounds found in Alaska and beyond.

UAA is experiencing sustained, positive enrollment momentum, with steady growth since the pandemic. The VCEMSA will join the university at a moment of opportunity, charged with advancing the institution's ability to recruit, admit, support and communicate effectively with students across all levels of education, from technical studies to undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The successful candidate will help UAA become more strategic in the way it recruits, admits, supports and communicates with its students. Technology will play a key role in this work; the UA System is in the midst of a multi-year modernization program. The VCEMSA will play a key leadership role with other UA System peers in shaping the use of technology for student recruitment and support.

In order to thrive in the position, the successful candidate must be a collaborator, able to build and engender trust from a wide constituency. A background and proven track record of developing, supporting and executing strategic enrollment management plans in an environment of collaboration with faculty, academic administrators, financial partners and others will be key to success in the position.

The public university system of Alaska is unique in many ways. It serves a state that is geographically large with a substantial Indigenous population. UAA is a dual mission university with programs spanning from graduate degrees through technical training programs and certificates. Experience in public postsecondary education and a strong understanding of the needs of these varied academic and technical programs is essential to developing and administering successful programs and initiatives to identify, recruit, admit and support these varied populations.
