10-Month Tenure Track Position
COMPENSATION: Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
The teaching assignment may include (but is not limited to) classes in the following areas: Application and utilization of the nursing process in the care of patients; Adult, geriatric, pediatric, and maternal child nursing, Critical care nursing; Acute and chronic care nursing; Mental health and psychiatric illness nursing; Critical care nursing; Ethics in and history of nursing; and Role of nursing in current health care delivery systems.
Representative Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Fulfill assigned lectures/clinical load every semester as assigned by the Nursing Director.
- Teaching in theory, skills, simulation and clinical setting in an Associate Degree Nursing Program utilizing a team-teaching approach.
- Develop and utilize materials for enhancement of student learning and faculty teaching within the changing healthcare environment.
- Teach in medical-surgical, pediatric, mental health, maternal-child and other assigned courses in a manner consistent with the department's standard and with the contents cited in the approved curriculum guides. Assignments may include evening, weekend, and nights.
- Perform professional task related to areas of assignment, particularly in student advisement, curriculum design and evaluation, program review and other assigned tasks as required.
- Remain current in the subject matter in the techniques of effective culturally responsive instruction.
- Provide academic remediation resources for at-risk students including: Individual and group review sessions on the nursing process, care planning, critical skills, and clinical judgement, medication calculations, and other issues as appropriate. Referrals as needed for test anxiety and learning disabilities.
- Provide demonstration, technical instructional assistance, and remediation to nursing students in practicing and refining performance of clinical skills in clinical laboratory classes, open lab time, and by individual appointments.
- Perform other assigned tasks for the benefit of the college, the community, and the profession.
- Participate in department and school meetings.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.
- Train assigned student/short term workers, assign duties as appropriate, and review work for compliance with established procedures, policies requirements and standards.
- Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.
- Evidence of interest in teaching students in the diverse multicultural community college setting.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in nursing OR Bachelor's in nursing AND Master's in health education or health science OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher.
PLUS, ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS SET BY THE BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING - TITLE 16, CALIFORNIA CODE OF REGULATIONS:
Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in assigned nursing area, which can be met by:
A. Three (3) years continuous full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; AND/OR
B. One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; AND
C. Completion of at least one (1) year of experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.
D. Practice in medical-surgical nursing and/or at least one of the following specialty nursing areas: psychiatric, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, specialty care units (ICU, ED)
Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency in the following:
- At least one (1) year of experience teaching courses in an Associate Degree Nursing program within the last five (5) years:
- At least one (1) year of experience of Simulation Lab teaching courses in an Associate Degree Nursing program within the last five (5) years.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of developing course syllabi
- Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning
- Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies
- Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable.
- Ability to work effectively in person through clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability in diverse professional settings.
- Demonstrated ability to remain current in one's discipline through ongoing professional development, research, and engagement with emerging trends and best practices.
- Ability to use advanced technology in the classroom
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms
- Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
