undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment.
The Program in Religious Studies seeks to complement existing strengths in Biblical Studies/Hebrew Bible and Asian Religions/Buddhist Studies by hiring a scholar-teacher whose work addresses ethical, cultural, and interdisciplinary dimensions of religion. Candidates should demonstrate broad training in their field of expertise, a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches, and competency in working in community-engaged settings. Ideal applicants will be enthusiastic, collaborative, adaptable, and prepared to work closely with colleagues, students, and community partners from diverse academic and faith backgrounds. Doctorate is preferred; ABD will be considered.
The standard teaching load for this position is three courses each semester. A spring course release may be available if the successful candidate assumes programmatic responsibilities connected to an ongoing grant-funded initiative focused on religion and health. In addition to courses situated at the intersection of religion and health, the Program seeks a faculty member who can teach courses in religion and culture, religious ethics, and other introductory, interdisciplinary, or topical offerings aligned with areas of teaching competence and appropriate for a broad liberal arts student population.
Applications should include a cover letter addressing the candidate’s interest in teaching in a demanding liberal arts environment, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching interests, evidence of teaching effectiveness, graduate transcripts, and a statement of scholarly interest. In addition, three letters of recommendation should be requested and sent by e-mail to facultyrecs@hendrix.edu. Address cover letter to Dr. Bill Gorvine. Electronic submissions are strongly encouraged and can be submitted at www.hendrix.edu/jobs. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
