The Department of Environmental Studies at Amherst College invites applications for a full-time one-year visiting appointment at the rank of visiting assistant professor. The preferred area of specialization is environmental sociology, but scholars working in other environmental social sciences are also encouraged to apply. This visiting appointment will begin July 1, 2026.

A Ph.D. in hand by August 2026 and prior teaching experience are required. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate level, including one qualitative methods course intended to prepare students for independent research.

The visiting assistant professor will also supervise senior honors theses, attend department meetings, and otherwise participate in department activities.

The expected salary range for this job opportunity is $70,000 to $100,000. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.
